Wedding Day Perfumes

details-45.jpg

February. The month of love, right? It is to me at least because it’s my birthday month, and my birthday just so happens to be on Valentine’s Day (which terrified my husband). I’m excited to be featuring some of my favorite weddings from 2018, and some wedding day tips.

I was planning a wedding this time last year and know the joy (and a little bit of the stress) that goes into planning one of the happiest days of your life. Today I’m sharing something that I put a lot of thought an energy into - the fragrance I wore on our wedding day and during our honeymoon!

Why did I put so much thought into it? Because scent as one of our five senses has the ability to connect with a memory in such a unique way. I wore one very specific fragrance on our wedding day and a more casual fragrance on our honeymoon, and then put them both away for a few months. I pulled one out to wear on a date night and all the best memories of our day came flooding back. It was one of the most special things I did, and now I have a special trick to pull back all those memories from one of the most perfect days. And as a bonus, Kyle experiences the same thing when I wear either one of my wedding day/honeymoon fragrances.

I have a few recommendations below, including the two scents I chose for our day/our honeymoon, but I recommend taking your time and really finding something that you really love. Take the time to experience the perfumes/scents in person, and get a sample if possible so you’ll know if they work well with your body chemistry. If you can, choose a scent for your wedding day, and a more casual one for your honeymoon.

Jo Malone Peony & Blush Suede

Jo Malone’s Peony & Blush Suede is the perfume I wore on our wedding day. I did not follow my own advice and actually ordered this online based on reviews and had never experienced the scent in person. My girls and I went to Charlottesville for my bachelorette and I saw a display of Jo Malone perfumes in a store window as we were shopping. I quickly ran inside, sprayed a little bit of this on my wrist, and immediately knew I’d made the right decision because it smelled so delicious!

I would highly recommend this if you are going to be a spring bride. It’s fresh, sweet, and authentically floral. This does not smell like old lady floral. This smells like walking through a real peony garden and the depth the suede note brings makes this slightly sexy, too.

Gucci II

Gucci II has been in my collection forever. It is clean, fresh, warm, and a little fruity while still being sophisticated. This is a fresh scent that packs a lot of punch. It’s memorable and unique without being too overpowering. This one would be perfect for a spring or summer bride. Bonus - this comes in a gorgeous bottle and will make your photographer so happy to incorporate during your detail shots!

Victor & Rolf Bonbon

Bonbon is the perfume I almost wore on our wedding day. To me it’s a sophisticated caramel fragrance. It’s very sweet and warm, but not overpowering. The warmth in this would be perfect for a fall bride. It’s so subtle that your groom may just think you naturally smell like caramel bonbons. It’s a beautiful fragrance, and obviously will look beautiful sitting on your vanity when you get home!

Mugler Alien

Winter Brides who want to make a statement, meet Alien your wedding day fragrance BFF. I’ve been wearing Alien for years, and it is my absolute favorite. There isn’t much that I look forward to when the weather starts getting colder, but getting to pull this out of my collection on a snowy morning is a TREAT. Much like other Mugler fragrances this one is weird. It doesn’t smell like anything you’ve ever tried and it is such a statement. The company says this about Alien, “Alien is a floral-woody-amber fragrance that borders the realms of spirituality and sensuality. It exudes a positive energy, charged with sensual and intriguing mystery.” For me, the woody-amber side of this scent is what is most prominent in this perfume. It’s different, and everyone will be asking all night what you’re wearing. Bonus points if amethyst is one of your wedding colors!

Gucci Guilty

Apparently I have a thing for Gucci fragrances. As you can see this is my very well loved bottle of Gucci Guilty. I normally only pull this out on date nights (this would be so good as a honeymoon fragrance, by the way) because it is very bold and sexy. A little would go a long way on your wedding day. Fall/winter brides (or a nighttime summer ceremony) this one is for you!

Sol de Janeiro Brazilian Crush Mist

This is the fragrance that I wore on our honeymoon (and that I am currently out of). It is the quintessential beach vacation fragrance. According to Sephora.com the fragrance is pistachio and salted caramel, but I just think it’s sexy and YUMMY. This smells so good. If you’re a summer bride, getting married on a beach any time of year, have a casual/boho feel to your day, or you’ll be honeymooning anywhere tropical run to your nearest Sephora and smell this immediately! Sephora normally sells a set with a full size fragrance and a slightly shimmery body cream (with the same fragrance). if you can find it, I highly recommend getting it!

I am a perfume junkie! I love them so much! If you have a favorite fragrance you think I should try, or if you have recs for other brides, comment below!
